My purpose in visting Bratislava was twofold: book publishing and promotion, and sightseeing. Ikar, my Slovakian publisher, arranged press events for me, beginning with a television interview for a culture channel.
To start, the reporter recorded "B Roll" of famous visiting authoress wandering the streets of the Old Town.
I'm already enjoy being Diva-for-a-Day.
After the audio engineer wired me for sound, I sat down for my first Slovakian tv interview, on a bench in Hviezdoslovo Square. Restaurant KOGO is in the background.
In a large room inside the restaurant, numerous people awaited my arrival: journalists, photographers, three people from the publishing company, my interpreter Ivana (seated to my right). Plus all the waiters who served us champagne--I was the recipient of a lovely toast--followed by a delicious lunch! During and after the meal I answered questions about my novels and my writing and my life. Afterwards I spent time doing one-on-one interviews with the magazine writers, most of whom tried out their excellent English. And I posed for lots of pictures.
My second tv interview on the bench in the Square.
I spent the rest of the afternoon--and part of the next day--popping into Bratislava bookshops.
The novels of Margaret Evansová Porterová were available everywhere!
