We travelled from Bratislava to Prague by train, and were fortunate to have perfect weather for the length of our stay. The wonderfully preserved architecture was amazing, and the food was superb.
The Powder Gate was built by King Vladislav II during the 15th Century. It was used for storing gunpowder. It was part of the eastern city wall.
The Staré Mesto (Old Town) is a magnet for any visitor to Prague, and no wonder--the spendid buildings of the Old Town Square are simply breathtaking. It is a busy place, where tourists congregate, often sitting in cafes as they wait for the chiming of teh famous clock adorning the Old Town Hall.
The astronomical clock on the Old Town Hall has many features: a solar clock, a lunar clock, and a calendar. It tells the time and shows the movement of the planets around the earth and moon, and also pinpoints the zodiac signs. On the hour, the bells ring, corcks crow, and the statues dance.

Wandering along a side street, I looked up to find these gargoyles looming above.
One reason for visiting the city was to attend the Book World, the Prague International Book Fair. It was held in this very impressive Exhibition Centre, where I had the pleasure of meeting the agent who has handled my Slovakian sales.
