Theatre History



I've been fortunate to spend time in London, delving into the theatre history collections at the British Library, the Art Library of the Victoria and Albert Theatre, the Bristol Library and the library at Bath.


This is the original Theatre Royal in Bath. All the great players of the late 18th century performed here: Sarah Siddons, her brother John Philip Kemble, their other siblings, and many more. The placque commemorates Mrs. Siddons.




I made use of it in Toast of the Town as the theatre occupied by the Forster company of players.

Bath's current Theatre Royal dates from Regency times. As does the theatre in Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, seen below.
